OK, so when I’m in the car I’m usually listening to a CD or my iPod, but in the mornings I usually listen to WLBC out of Muncie on my way to work. This morning, I decided to go grab a Starbucks before work, and I’m glad I did! They have a contest where they call out a birthdate and then if you’re the right caller, you win some prizes – they talk to you on the air for a bit, and then you give them your decade of birth. If they spin your exact year on the “wheel of years,” you get into a drawing for a monthly prize.
Well, they called August 4 this morning and I got through! I won a bunch of stuff that I don’t remember what it is now. I have to go down to their studios in Muncie to pick it up sometime in the next 2 weeks. They did not call my correct year on the wheel of years, though (they had me 7 years younger than I am – which wouldn’t be so bad).
So I can’t say I’ve never won anything. Although I couldn’t say that earlier, either – I remember winning a contest in Pittsburgh because my radio was tuned to Q13 (some AM station there) sometime in the ’70s. They had people go door to door and check to see if any radios were tuned to their station. I won $50 for that I think, with which I bought a record player. That’s right, I said “record player!” People used to listen to those big black discs on record players before they started using them for wall coverings. Honest.
We just got back from Collin’s baseball game. They were hitting the ball hard all night, but for 4 innings they hit it right at the other team. They were down 4-1 going into the last 2 innings, and scored 10 runs to win the game 11-6! Way to go guys!
I took pics at Collin’s Riverview Rocket Revue show last night. It was their next-to-last show for the year, and they did a terrific job! I also recorded their previous night’s performance on my digital video camera, but I’m still getting that put together to post online.
Their outfits made an American flag (Collin is third from the left):

My nephew Aaron wrote on his blog about how we Lehrians are all addicted to Facebook now. And he blamed ME for starting it! Here’s a video I ran across about Facebook addiction, and how to know if you’re addicted:
According to the video, I’m not quite addicted yet, but I better watch myself!
Renee is going to a Women’s Retreat our church is putting on this weekend. Well, OK, it’s only tonight and most of tomorrow. But that means us guys are on our own. Collin has another RRR performance tonight, and a coworker of mine has graciously offered to watch Ian for me while I go watch Collin. They’re having a little program and awards ceremony afterwards, so it will be nice to not have to run after Ian the whole time.
I recorded his RRR performance last night, maybe I’ll take the time to get that online tonight. They’re doing a patriotic theme now, and they did such a great job!
Other than that – no big plans. Just hanging out, maybe getting outside to play (the sun finally came back out today). Renee has had a cold recently, but is feeling better, so I hope this retreat will help her get some rest she needs. At least it’s a break from the routine.
Most people know that I’m a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Less people know that I’m also a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays. Yes, I know – 2 of the biggest laughingstocks in Major League Baseball in recent years.
Well, the good guys are winning more often this year. The Pirates have won 8 of their last 10 games, and the Rays are in first place in the AL East with the AL’s best record (24-17). Both teams are doing it with strong starting pitching.
Here’s a crazy stat that sums it up: Last year, over 162 games, the Pirates and Rays won their games on the same day ONLY 23 TIMES. This year, they’ve both come away victorious on the same day 14 times in only 41 games.
And just in case you didn’t know, they’re the Tampa Bay “Rays” this year, NOT the “Devil Rays”. They dropped the “Devil” from their name and changed uniform styles this past offseason. Geesh, if THAT was all they had to do to start winning, they could’ve done that 8 years ago!
Let’s just hope they keep continuing to win. It makes me a much happier baseball fan.
This past Saturday, Collin’s baseball team had a game that we had to miss since we were away at the Johnson farm. I just found out today that they won the game 8-0! The other team fielded well, but I guess they had some trouble at the plate (a lot of their kids struck out). I remember those days with our team…we now have one of the older teams in the league, so we’re playing a lot better now than we have over the past 2 years.
The weather forecast doesn’t look too good for Collin’s next game tomorrow – 70% chance of thunderstorms.
There are many applications for this service, ranging from sweet smelling MMS greetings, to branded advertising samples for perfume manufacturers, to scent enhanced games for mobile phones and computers providing an additional sensory element for an outstanding gaming experience.
Of course, there are other smells you could send that aren’t quite as nice, but I’ll leave you to consider that on your own…
To all the moms out there – Happy Mother’s Day! Especially to the moms dearest to us – my mom, my kids’ mom, and my kids’ mom’s mom! We went up to the Johnson farm this weekend to hang out and celebrate Mother’s Day. Marsha, Paul, Novelle and Vierra were there too.
The big news there is that Renee’s mom & dad bought the house next door to them and will be moving in this summer. The house used to be Renee’s cousins’ house, and was built in 1999. It will have a lot more room for the kids and us when we visit.
It’s a good thing we frolicked on Saturday, because it has rained all day today. Here are some pics:
