Why Even Have Daylight Saving Time?

Whose bright idea was Daylight Saving Time (DST)?  Actually, it was Benjamin Franklin, but it was meant to be a joke, not something we actually should legislate.  Lyndon Johnson actually signed the Uniform Time Act of 1966 into law, formally creating DST.
After spending most of the morning fixing computers in our office so that they [...]

A "Normal" Day

We had a rare occurrence today.  Collin actually had school, without a 2-hour delay, and Renee and I both had our normal work schedules.  So, we had to get the kids up at their normal time, feed them breakfast and get them to the sitter and school, and go to work.  That was different…

Our First Wii Strap Issue

We just had our first Wii remote strap break this morning.  I guess we’ll be taking Nintendo up on their offer to replace it for free.  I’ve heard of other people throwing their remotes through their TVs and breaking windows, etc… becuase of this.  There have even been entire web sites dedicated to the Wii [...]

Another Day Off

Collin has yet another day off school today – but this time it’s fog, not snow, that is causing the cancellation.  So now he gets to go to school until June 6.  Lucky him.  It was so thick still at 9:00 that I couldn’t see 100 feet in front of my car coming in to [...]

Return To Normalcy

Well, as normal as we were in the first place, anyway.  The schools were open yesterday, although on a 2-hour delay.  Renee and I were both back to work.  They’re now trying to figure out how to make up some of the clinical hours they missed.  They didn’t build any snow days into the calendar [...]

Blizzard of 2007 Aftermath

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana officially put the Marion snow total at 16 inches (see below), which is more than the infamous ”Blizzard of 1978.”  We were indeed in the swath of heaviest snow, just like they predicted, but everyone got a decent amount of snow.
Most of the main roads are plowed and OK [...]

Play Time!

But not for too long – it’s COLD out there!  I snapped a few pics of Collin playing in the snow:

Final Tally: 14.5 Inches

The snow ended overnight, and the sun actually came out this morning.  The final official snow tally for Marion was 14.5 inches, so it wasn’t quite as much as the blizzard of 1978 or the biggest snowfall on record in 1898.  But it still was probably a once (maybe twice) in a lifetime snow for Grant [...]

The Weather is Hard on Dogs, Too

Poor DJ.  I had to shovel out a path for him to go outside and do his business tonight.  This is looking out onto our back patio.  The snow I shoveled was about 2 feet deep:

The Mayor of Marion (Wayne Seybold, former Olympic figure skater) declared a state of emergency in Marion.  Which means [...]

11 Inches and Counting

The Marion Chronicle-Tribune is reporting 11 inches of snow has fallen so far today, and it’s still snowing with a forecast for 4-8 inches more tonight.  If that holds, then this will possibly be more snow than the “blizzard of ‘78″ (15.5″) that eveyone around here talks about, and the most snow in a single event since [...]
