More Softball

A couple nights ago, Renee and I both had softball games.  Renee’s team won their game 15-3 (I think).  I had to wait out Renee’s game at 5:45 so I could give Ian to her and get to my game at 7:15.  I made it on time, but it was kind of frustrating because in the 5th and 6th innings Renee’s team would get up by 10 runs in the top of the inning only to give up ONE run in the bottom of the inning to take the 10-run rule out of play, so they would have to play another entire inning.  I thought I wasn’t going to make my game on time, but I did.  Renee’s team is still playing their regular season, with their tournament scheduled for the second week in August, I think.

For my team, it was the first game of our double-elimination tournament.  We came into the tournament as the #5 seed out of 11 teams, but we’re coming in on a hot streak — we’ve won 9 of our last 10 games to finish 12-8 on the season.  We played the #4 seed (Lakeview Wesleyan) and won 10-5.  We played a very sound game both at the plate and in the field.  Drew Tittle made a couple of highlight-reel catches in left field to save us at least a couple runs, and we ended the game by turning a double play that was brilliantly started by our shortstop, Josh Baker.  I caught most of the game, which was interesting because I don’t catch very often, and it gives you a different perspective.  It was fun.  I also ended up going 3-for-3 at the plate, although I got stranded at second base 2 times, and got thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double in the 7th inning.  I should have never tried to get the extra base, but the whole team was yelling “Go Two! Go Two!” so I had to try…  I’m just not as quick as I used to be, but honestly if I hadn’t hesitated rounding first, I probably would have made it.

My next game is Saturday at 10:30, but Collin is being evaluated for flag football during that time, so I may not be able to make it.  We’re most likely playing the #1 seed, New Hope Baptist.  They’re playing the #8 seed Union Chapel Baptist on Friday night, so we won’t know for sure who we’re playing against until then.  It should be a good game either way.  If anyone reading this really cares, you can follow the tournament results on the “unofficial” league website (click on “TOURNEY” at the bottom).  I hope we make it far, because some of the games toward the end will be televised locally on Indiana Wesleyan’s TV station.  It would be fun to see us play on TV!
