An Evening With Colin and Brad

Tonight, we’re going to the Honeywell Center in Wabash to see An Evening with Colin and Brad, featuring Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood of Whose Line Is It Anyway fame.  We’re taking the Hoeksemas with us – Jeanette is a “closet” Whose Line fan.  I’m looking forward to seeing them do their improv live – [...]

I Won!

Earlier this week I found out that I won our office’s Biggest Loser contest!  I lost 24.5 lbs total, or 11.66% of myself.  It was a close call – I beat the second-place finisher by .03%.  For winning, I received the book Rachael Ray Express Lane Meals : What to Keep on Hand, What to [...]

A Narrow Miss…

Yesterday, we had a severe storm come through Grant County at about 2:00pm.  It was the fastest-approaching storm I have ever seen in my life.  They say the storm was moving at about 50mph, and the winds from the storm were estimated to be about 80mph.  Just for comparison, 74mph winds are hurricane-force winds, so [...]

Does Anyone in the U.S. Really Care About Soccer?

It's not for lack of ESPN trying (they've hyped the FIFA World Cup quite a bit), but does anyone in the U.S. really care about soccer?  I see the scores; give them a passing glance, and then go on with my day.  I don't really care who wins the World Cup.  I just know it [...]

Biggest Loser Update

I lost another 1.5 lbs. this week, despite eating out all three days this weekend.  I weighed in this morning at 185.5 lbs.  That takes my total weight lost since March 20 to 24.5 lbs. (or 11.7% of myself).  Next Monday is the last weigh-in; hopefully I'll be able to reach 185, so I'll have [...]

I’m Healing…

If you've been reading this blog, you know that I've had 3 ailments lately (Renee would say that I'm always complaining of some ailmnet).  Poison ivy, a broken hand, and wisdom tooth extraction.
The hand is getting better, but still not good enough to play softball.  I tried to put a mitt on earlier this week, and [...]

Father’s Day

We went down to Paul & Marsha's to celebrate Father's Day and the Johnson June birthdays (Grandma and Renee) on Saturday.  it was probably the hottest day of the year so far – the temps soared over 90 degrees.  We went to a restaurant called Bahama Breeze for lunch – it was good.  Paul and [...]

A Close Call for Steeler Nation

Anyone who claims to be a football fan this week probably followed the story of Ben Roethlisberger's motorcycle accident.  Steelers fans (including this one) most certainly were concerned for his health – first of all as a person, and then as the Steelers' QB.
It looks at this point like he escaped with relatively minor injuries [...]

A Lesson in Patience

I find it completely hilarious that God has seen fit to put me in the position of coaching Collin's baseball team.  It's definitely been a lesson in patience and humility most of the time.  Also about biting my tongue when I'd really like to tell an opposing coach off.  Anyone who has known me for [...]

Vroom, Vroom!

I haven't posted any pics of the kids lately. Here are just a couple:
